Healthwatch Norfolk wanted to find out if residents and their families were listened too within residential care if they had learning disabilities and autism. This followed the tragic deaths of three young people at the Cawston Park home....

Between April 2018 and July 2020, three patients, Joanna, “Jon” and Ben, died at Cawston Park Hospital in North Norfolk, having suffered neglect and abuse. They were all in their 30s, and they all had learning disabilities. An important finding of reports into the tragedy was that the views of patients and their families were systematically ignored by the hospital. As part of the system response to these events, the Healthwatch Norfolk board agreed to undertake a review of the residential and in-patient sector caring for people with learning disabilities and autistic people....

From November 2019 to March 2020, Healthwatch Norfolk ran an online survey to collect feedback on local residents’ experiences of mental health support in primary care. In Autumn 2019 Healthwatch Norfolk were commissioned by the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Network and funded by the National Lottery Awards for All programme to undertake a qualitative evaluation of sexual abuse or assault support services available in Norfolk. This report forms a part of the above-named project but acts as a standalone piece of work, mapping the support services available throughout Norfolk. This project has involved speaking to prison residents with diabetes to find out about things that have happened regarding their diabetes care. We also sought information from prison staff about what they feel are the biggest risks to residents with diabetes, along with their ideas on how things could work better. As well as indicating areas for improvement, we felt it important to also acknowledge where services are working well for people....
