NHS Health Check

This page contains information about two different ways of checking your health. If you are aged between 40 and 74 and live in Norfolk, you can find out if you are eligible for a free NHS Health Check. You can also find out about the free Digital Health Stations which are running at two Norfolk supermarkets.

NHS Health Check for 40-74 year olds

Once you celebrate your fortieth (and every five years afterwards), you should be contacted by your GP surgery about the checks.

You have various options to access one.

You can:

Book the check with your GP who can carry it out at your surgery or practice

Or you can have it done at a participating pharmacy if they offer the service

Or book in with Reed Wellbeing and one of their team will do the check at a range of sites including leisure centres, community centres or libraries around Norfolk, before sending the results on to your GP. This work is done on behalf of Norfolk County Council.

Or check if your workplace/employer offers the Reed Wellbeing checks by asking your line manager or HR department.

You can book the Reed Wellbeing sessions by clicking here

What will happen at the Health Check?

The session takes about 30 minutes and will tell you if you are at higher risk of getting certain health problems including heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and stroke.

You will receive a risk score which tells you how likely you are to develop one of the conditions as well as lifestyle advice and places to go for further help.

The information is also sent through to your GP for their records and for any additional support that may be needed.

The service is funded by Norfolk County Council and you can find out more on their website here

We will keep this page updated with the latest information about the NHS Health Check programme in Norfolk

Meanwhile, to help publicise the NHS Health Checks, the Healthwatch Norfolk mascot Nelson went along to have one. Find out more by watching the video below

Digital Health Stations

These are up and running in two supermarkets in Norfolk. They are free to use and will give you a mini-health assessment in about five minutes.

Where can I find them?

They are at the Asda in Great Yarmouth, and the Tesco by the Hardwick roundabout in King’s Lynn.

What will they test?

It will test your blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight, and BMI (Body Mass Index) as well as assess your physical activity, wellbeing, and smoking and alcohol levels.

After getting your results, you will be given further health recommendations, and contact details for other organisations who can help you.
