The report, published earlier this month, highlights The Trust’s exceptional performance, with an average wait time of just six days for breast cancer surgery between January and March this year.
In addition to this outstanding achievement, other key metrics from the report underline the hospital’s commitment to timely cancer care:
- 99% of patients with suspected cancer were either diagnosed or had cancer ruled out within 28 days of GP referral
- 100% of patients began treatment within 62 days of referral for suspected cancer
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, affecting approximately 56,000 people annually.
Early diagnosis plays a critical role in improving outcomes, and reducing wait times for treatment is a key priority of the NHS Long Term Plan.
Commenting on the Trust’s achievement, Chief Operating Officer Simon Illingworth, said: “This is fantastic news and means that our patients – whether suspected of cancer or diagnosed with it – receive the most appropriate care as soon as possible.”
QEH’s leadership in reducing breast cancer wait times reaffirms its commitment to providing high-quality and timely care, while also significantly improving outcomes for cancer patients across the region.
