NHS staff and volunteers praised at awards

‘Thank you for all that you do.’ That was the key message to all those who took part in this year’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital Staff Awards.

More than 300 guests heard heart-warming stories about the various finalists and winners at the event.

One story included a patient who had nominated the Critical Care and ITU team for the incredible care they gave her dying husband in his final moments. Another was the difference a nurse is making for patients who have had a stroke.

Sheridan’s story

The Chair’s award winner, which was the final award of the evening, was handed to Sheridan Bell. Sheridan, age 30, who has been working at the Trust for 10 years is a Registered Nursing Associate / Nursing Degree Apprentice.

Sheridan works on Rudham Ward, which looks after some of the most vulnerable patients the hospital has – children. Along with caring for young patients every day she is also tirelessly working to develop her skills to soon become a registered nurse.

Sheridan, who had no idea she’d been nominated for the award until she was announced on the night. said: “I am so shocked, I still don’t think it’s registered.

“I was told my colleague had won the award and I was asked to come with her tonight – I even asked the gentleman behind me to film her when she goes up.
