Norfolk and Norwich Hospital Showcase 2024

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital held its 2024 Showcase and AGM.

It was an opportunity for people to find out more about the hospital’s work, see how it is performing, and ask questions.

Some of the key points during the event included:

A reminder of key hospital milestones including the opening of two new operating theatres specifically for children, two more operating theatres to carry out orthopaedic surgery, and work to reduce the ambulance waiting times to help ensure more people get care.

Awards were given to five Charity Champions who, between them, have raised more than £50,000 for the hospital.

A number of ‘firsts’ including a new service for women who experience early pregnancy loss, new technology to monitor pregnant women with diabetes, the news that more than 3000 procedures have been carried out with the aid of robots, and a world-first trial of a drug for patients with endometriosis.

The Emergency Department has performed above NHS England targets to see at least 78 per cent of patients within four hours. The Norfolk and Norwich also managed to admit, transfer or discharge 83 per cent of patients within four hours. The department also has senior medical staff at the front door to help patients get their diagnosis and treatment faster.

Work has been done to reduce the amount of time patients with colorectal cancer have to stay in hospital. A mix of using robotic procedures and monitoring patients who are suitable remotely through Virtual Wards means 15 patients only needed to stay in hospital one night and up to 40 only needed two days on a ward.

You will be able to see the NNUH’s Emergency Department at work in the next series of A&E After Dark on Channel 5.
