Al-Anon Family Groups are there for anyone whose life is or has been affected by someone else’s drinking.

The Ask for ANI scheme allows those at risk or suffering from abuse to discreetly signal that they need help and then access support through thousands of pharmacies across the UK.

Food banks (The Trussell Trust)

Food banks are grassroots, community organisations aimed at supporting people who cannot afford the essentials in life.

Hear For Norfolk

Hear for Norfolk offer a Befriending Service which provides emotional support to individuals who have become isolated due to their hearing loss, or anyone who thinks their emotional wellbeing would be improved by the one-to-one support offered by the service.

Befriending works by supporting you to come to terms with hearing loss and find confidence to go out and socialise. Your aim might be as simple as being able to go to the shops, or to travel on a bus and your befriender will support you in that activity.

All befriending volunteers are trained and adhere to a strict set of ethical boundaries.

iCash

iCash offers help and support across all areas of sexual and reproductive health, including contraception, sexually transmitted infection (STI), and HIV testing and treatment.

It has centres in Norwich, King’s Lynn and Great Yarmouth.

iCash also works with the Terrence Higgins Trust to provide community outreach services including free condoms, Chlamydia screening, and sexual health advice and signposting.

James Paget Ostomy Support Group

The support group meets regularly to help people with abdominal stomas from across Norfolk. The meetings are held quarterly in January, April, July and October on a 2nd or 3rd Thursday evening at 7pm. It also organises occasional day trips and special events. Macmillan Support Line

Going through cancer can be an isolating experience at any time, and especially when social distancing. Macmillan’s free Telephone Buddy service is here for you. They’ll match you with someone who understands what you’re going through, and they’ll give you a weekly call. They are ready to talk about how you’re feeling and your support needs during this difficult time. They can also let you know about our other services, and all the ways Macmillan can help, so you don’t have to face cancer alone.

How it works

  1. Sign up online or by phone to register your interest
  2. We’ll get in touch to find out what support you need
  3. We’ll find a Telephone Buddy who suits your needs
  4. You’ll get a weekly call from your Telephone Buddy. Typically your volunteer will offer up to 8 weeks of support, but this can be adjusted to suit your needs.

New Routes

New Routes work with and support refugees, asylum seekers and isolated migrants, and promote cross-cultural integration and community awareness in Norwich. They work with individuals and families from over 80 countries, speaking 60+ different languages.

NHS App

The NHS App lets you book GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions and access a range of other healthcare services on your phone.

With the NHS App you can:

  • check your symptoms – find reliable NHS information on hundreds of conditions and get advice on possible treatments
  • book appointments – search for, book and cancel appointments at your GP surgery
  • order repeat prescriptions – see your available medications and request a new repeat prescription
  • view your medical record – get secure access to your GP medical record
  • register to be an organ donor – easily manage your preferences on the NHS Organ Donor Register
  • choose how the NHS uses your data and register your decision on whether it can be contacted for research

The NHS App is for people aged 13 and over who are registered with a GP surgery using the app.

You can use some of the app’s features without your GP surgery signing up to use the app.

95% of surgeries are now signed up to the NHS App.

Norfolk and Suffolk Victim Care

If you are a victim of crime, Norfolk and Suffolk Victim Care can help. They support and help someone cope and recover from any type of crime from fraud and hate crime to stalking and sexual violence.

It offers emotional support and reassurance as well as practical help to help you understand your rights, next steps, advocacy, and help through the justice system if appropriate.

You can contact them directly by email, phone, or Live Chat. They also Language Line interpretation for anyone who does not speak English.

Norfolk Community Law Service

The Norfolk Community Law Service is a registered charity dedicated to providing access to justice and equality in Norfolk.

All their services are free, independent and confidential.

NCLS is unable to offer legal advice by telephone or by email. Free legal advice sessions are provided.

Terrence Higgins Trust

The Terrence Higgins Trust team in Norfolk offer a range of services including free HIV self-test kits, co-ordinating the county’s screening programme for chlamydia, sexual health information and advice, free training for people working in sexual health, and co-ordinating the Norfolk C-Card condom scheme offering free condoms and lube for young people aged 13 to 24.

Shelter offer a wide range of help and advice on all housing and homelessness issues. They have a team of advisers and solicitors who may be able to help you with your problem – and if they can’t help, they work with other agencies who can.

TimeNorfolk

TimeNorfolk is a registered charity which aims to support women and their partners who:

  • need support following a pregnancy loss or infant death
  • are facing an unplanned pregnancy
  • need support with a difficult pregnancy
  • need support for other pregnancy related issues e.g. infertility, pre or post-natal depression.

Versus Arthritis advisors aim to bring all of the information and advice about arthritis into one place to provide tailored support for you.

Vision Norfolk

Vision Norfolk is the county’s charity for people living with sight loss and visual impairment. It provides practical and emotional support at its hubs around Norfolk.

It offers social and wellbeing activities for adults, young people and their families, daily living equipment, befriending services and specialist housing.

Working Well Norfolk

The team of Employment Advisers can help support you back to work if you are managing a disability or health condition.

They will also help if you are struggling in work or are at risk of losing your job.
