On this page, you can find the executive summary of some work we were asked to carry out by Norfolk County Council to help make sure the voices of older people are heard when planning and delivering social care services in the county.
We wanted to understand how well older people are listened to and responded to by social care services, understanding the experiences of over-65s who need social care support around hospital discharge, and the support given to people diagnosed with dementia and their carers.
During the first 12 months of this three-year project, we wanted to gather a wide-ranging knowledge of people’s experiences. We did this through interviews with 60 people, and also running a survey which was completed by 270 people across the county.
Based on what we heard, our recommendations included making sure information about the social care ‘offer’ is easily accessible including in paper form, make sure patients and carers are consulted equally about how they want to be discharged from hospital, and make sure there is both learning support and regular check-ins from professionals after a diagnosis of dementia.
